Various and Sundered Items

GLOG Class: Crimson Demon Wizard

In a remote mountain village, far from civilization, an eccentric band of wizards practice their craft. They are magomaniacs - they delight in the rush of arcane power through their veins. They are pyromaniacs - fire, lightning, and all manner of explosions fill them with childlike glee. They are egomaniacs - their personal eccentricities dominate and interfere with their ability to associate normally with other colleges and wizard schools.

But they don't care how you label them. They are the Crimson Demon Wizards, and they have the coolest magic.

Starting Equipment: Red and black Crimson Demon Wizard Uniform, Crimson Demon epaulette or armband, spellbook, ink and quill, a bad case of middle-school syndrome.

Crimson Demon Wizards are outsider wizards. Other wizards find them distasteful and childish, except for Elementalists, who find them comically endearing. They make excellent war wizards, and are often recruited by nobles in place of orthodox wizards, which makes the orthodox wizards furious.

Special

You may dedicate yourself to the perfection of a single spell. Choose a suitably flashy spell (it doesn't have to be from the Crimson Demon spell list). You gain that spell but can never prepare any others, you don't gain additional spells known by taking Wizard templates, and you always fail the save against your drawback when casting that spell. At templates B-D, gain Friendly Spell (you still gain Friendly Spell as normal at template C too). At template D, gain one additional MD that may only be used for this spell.

Perk

You deal +1 damage per MD invested in your damaging spells.

Drawback

When casting magic during combat, you must save to avoid using all unspent MD you have to fuel the spell.

Cantrips

You can make your magic 1 MD more flashy when you cast it. This has no mechanical effect, but it may cause others (and yourself) to overestimate your abilities.

You can flash, crackle, and sparkle ominously at will.

You can use one Orthodox Wizard cantrip, and yours is cooler somehow (but not more effective).

1d6 Mishaps

  1. MD only return to your pool on a 1-2 for 24 hours but spells are 1 MD more impressive.
  2. Take 1d6 damage
  3. Random mutation for 1d6 rounds, then make a save. Permanent if you fail.
  4. Unable to cast with less than all of your unspent MD for 24 hours.
  5. Agony for 1d6 rounds.
  6. Cannot cast spells for 1d6 rounds.

Dooms

  1. Lose the ability to cast spells for 1 day.
  2. Lose the ability to cast spells for 3 days.
  3. Die of despair or become an incredibly boring and businesslike NPC when you lose the ability to cast spells permanently.

This doom can be avoided by becoming the leader of the Crimson Demon Wizards or by slaying the Crimson Demon himself.

Design Notes

GLOGtober Challenge 1: Anime-inspired content. The Crimson Demon Wizard is ripped straight from an anime called Konosuba. Probably not even the first Crimson Demon Wizard class created for GLOG, but at least it's my take. A very powerful perk but a significant drawback. You will find it significantly more challenging to hoard magical resources, but you'll be very dangerous when fresh.

Note: Even if you take advantage of the Megumin-inspired Special option, you can still cast from scrolls and use your Book Casting feature. You just can't prepare other spells and you don't learn any additional spells by leveling. I didn't want to keep the Crimson Demons from enjoying spell loot, after all.
